Title:QwikiSubject:Social Studies, ReferenceLevel:Primary, Elementary (PK-5)
Primary, Middle (6-8)
Secondary, High (9-12)
Description:"Type in your topic and you will get a collage of pictures and an audio reader giving you information about your topic. The people at Qwiki call this an "information experience." They have several categories, if you'd like to just go in and browse. They include animals, natural wonders, monuments, historical figures, and daily (current events.) At the end of the slide show, you are given choices for sharing. You can email, embed, tweet, etc. Also, you are given several other sources you can click on to further investigate your topic. Currently, Qwiki covers a wide variety of people, places, and things. Since this is their first release, they promise to have much more content soon. And, actually they have a voting area where you can tell them what you'd like to see them provide next. The qwiki source material is not readily identified, though press releases indicate that it comes from 'wikipedia and other sources.' There is also an app for iPads available."

Title:BBC-DimensionsSubject:Social Studies, Ecology, Geography, Environmental StudiesLevel:Primary, Middle (6-8)
Secondary, High (9-12)
Description: "This site can help make the size of a place or an historical event real. How big is big? This tool generates the ultimate geographically based infographic! When we study an event, a disaster, or talk about the scale or size of an empire, it can be difficult for students to translate that information into a comparison to something they know. Type in your postal code, and see a map displaying the size of the 2010 floods in Pakistan (for example) covering an area near where you live. Instant context! The site provides comparisons related to historical events, environmental disasters, ancient kingdoms, and more. There are graphics related to area, to depth, and to distances in space."
